K edi is the living proof that any story is worth telling if you know how to tell it and using the proper tools, you can create magic. What I loved about this movie is the unique point of view from which is told. At some point, I even thought that someone had hooked Go Pro cameras to the cats and let them film the entire thing. Nonetheless, the movie was filmed by humans using different techniques such as hidden cameras located in strategic points to get a closer look at cats’ secret life.
The movie was filmed entirely in Istanbul, Turkey, whose people show a great respect for cats and take care of them. Kedi shows us how these cats have adapted to the urban lifestyle and how they manage to survive and raise their offspring as well as their lifestyle and their hunting habits. Ceyda Torun is the talent behind the camera that directed this amazing film and she proved that one does not need a huge list of previous movies to show what one can do. She portrayed the lives of 8 stray cats, each one with a different personality that resembles us, human beings and this fact is so entrancing for someone who is not familiarized with cats that you do not need to be a cat lover to enjoy this film.
Another aspect that I enjoyed about Kedi is that there are some people who are completely devoted to cats and tend to them like they were their own children (and some even prefer the company of cats to humans). Istanbul citizens of all ages and social status devote themselves to these small felines to the point of opening cat shelters and taking in all kinds of cats. The people pamper almost every stray cat and they keep them well fed as well, giving them food that is normally for human consumption but the cats love it too.
The fact that these cats each has its own personality is very entertaining and it gives the movie a pleasant feeling. The spectator can relate to any cat of his own choosing and track its activities like if they were their own. Ceyda Torun portrayed the beautiful streets and daily hustle of Istanbul in this film and when we see it through the eyes of the lovable felines, it is even more appealing and interesting.
A great movie to watch with the family because even small kids are going to love to see the busy lives that these cats live. Completely worth watching, original and filled with emotion and cute kittens. There is nothing not to like about this entrancing movie and if you are looking for a new kind of movie, you will not regret choosing Kedi.
