BIG LOVE – A Portrayal of Polygamy

Big Love aired on the HBO network is an American drama television series set in Utah. The series premiered on 12th March 2006. Big Love concluded on 20th March 2011 with total filming of 5 seasons over 53 episodes. The show was directed and created by Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer who enchanted the idea of polygamy after being influenced by the article of 2003 on the Independent Fundamentalist Morgons, The Darger Family.

Abstract

Big Love series is based on Bill Paxton, the male head of the Mormon family who practiced polygamy with Chloe Sevigny, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Jeanne Tripplehorn. The series is the complex study of family life.

Seasons

The series has a total of 5 seasons. Each season has a different storyline to tell with different responses from critics.

Season 1 revolves around the family exposure of Bill and his three wives: Nicolette, Margene, and Barbara. In the second season, Bill begins a business with Weber Gaming and comes into a dispute of underground polygamist family.

In season 3, Bill began dating Ana after Margene gave birth to Nell. In season 4, Bill won the election and announced about his polygamy activity in front of the press inviting all his three wives on stage.

In season 5, Bill builds his own church in sandy and later when the series concluded, Bill’s memorial was held as his honor.

Awards

The show has won AFI Award for the amazing series and America award for the best writing. The show and its characters also got nominated for various awards and honors.

The series showcased an idea of the non-judgemental and fair practice of polygamy in America. Big Love has depicted the combination of family’s affections and tensions. The show received the best reviews for its storyline that balances intelligence and craziness, laughter and sorrow, and most importantly the private in political.
