An American narrative drama film directed and written by Steven Zaillian released on 11th August 1993 is the William Horberg production. In the United Kingdom, it was released as Innocent Moves. The film features the life of Joshua Waitzkin who is a genius chess player and movie is also an adaptation of a novel written by Fred(Joshua’s father) named Searching for Bobby: The father of a Prodigy Observes the world of chess.

Joshua Waitzkin is a casual American child who was interested in baseball but one day he wins over his father in a chess match. His father seeing him win the match got proud and decides to nurture his chess talent. His father hired an instructor named Bruce Pandolfini who teaches the boy to become like the chess legend Bobby Fischer.
American boy Joshua shown his hidden brilliance in the matches held at Washington Square in New York City. He made friends like Vinnie who teaches him to play chess in speed. His parents again hired Bruce who this time make josh learn the necessity of time measuring. However, the main conflict arose in the film as Josh didn’t opt for Pandolfini’s methods and played the matches according to Vinnie’s advice. At last Joshua plays the game on his terms and conditions.
The film won an award for the American Society of Cinematographer in 1993 and also got the nominations for the category of Best Cinematography award at 66th Academy Awards.

The film requires no knowledge to understand as it is just the life and struggle of the chess player Joshua Waitzkin.
